This engaging and interactive multi-part series will provide guidance to Michigan’s nonprofits as they consider re-entry into the workplace. Sessions will be grounded in equity as we balance the exploration of legal, HR and financial requirements as well as ways to strengthen team culture, redefine the work space and realign to mission.
Jonathan Hui
Jonathan Hui is a program officer at The Kresge Foundation. He supports the Detroit Program’s work in early childhood and neighborhood development. He joined the foundation in 2017. Previously he served as director of strategy and planning at the Education Achievement Authority of Michigan, where he was involved with leading talent recruitment, development/evaluation efforts, organizational strategic planning and systems design at the state-run school district. Jonanthan started his career as a social studies teacher at Denby High School in Detroit, Michigan, as a Teach for America corps member and later led community initiatives on behalf of the school, where his work focused on the intersection of education and community development. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University.
Felix V. Martinez
Felix V. Martinez is an experienced industry professional who leads business development efforts for Chicago-based design practice Wyzendale. His professional experience ranges from working at commercial design firms to serving as a representative in the furniture manufacturing industry and leading business development strategy for award-winning architecture firms. Felix is a true design and creative enthusiast whose volunteerism efforts strengthen the design community through various board and committee involvement.
Ceara O’Leary
Ceara O’Leary, AIA, is a Co-Executive Director at the Detroit Collaborative Design Center (DCDC), where she leads collaborative community design and planning projects citywide alongside neighborhood partners and with a focus on community engagement. She is also a Professor of Practice at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture, teaching public interest design and community development courses. Ceara’s professional work, teaching, research and speaking focus on inclusive design of community spaces, ranging from building renovations and open space design to neighborhood plans and citywide infrastructure strategy. Ceara joined the DCDC in 2012 as an Enterprise Rose Architectural Fellow and is the Immediate Past Chair of the AIA Housing and Community Development Knowledge Community Advisory Group. In 2015 Ceara was named a “Top Urban Innovator” by Next City Vanguard and completed a fellowship with the ULI Larsen Center for Leadership. Previously, Ceara worked with bcWORKSHOP in the Lower Rio Grade Valley and the Gulf Coast Community Design Studio in Biloxi, Mississippi. Ceara graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with Masters degrees in Architecture and City & Regional Planning and she earned her undergraduate degree from Brown University.
Nick Weise
Nick launched Rightsize Facility’s Detroit office and has spent the past five years building Rightsize’s team and presence in the Michigan market, with offices in Southfield & Detroit.
